The Child Development Program at Reedley College offers an associate degree, several certificate programs, and transfer options. The program addresses the certificate, licensing, and training requirements needed for a person to enter a number of occupations in early childhood education and child care. The job opportunities in and throughout the San Joaquin Valley are very good and the demand for the program is high. The previous temporary portable buildings consisted of approximately 4,099 assignable square feet and were not adequate. Based upon the program requirements and demand, the new facility accommodates 12 infants, 24 toddlers, and 48 preschool children.
The new facility consists of a single story building with approximately 12,712 assignable square feet (GSF 16,615). The program space includes early childhood classrooms, class lab, observation rooms, lounge, reception, work-room, and food preparation facility.
The new Early Childhood & Education Building at Reedley College received approval from the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office (CCCCO) as a partially funded state project (80% state, 20% local) in July 2019 with authorization to proceed with the development of preliminary plans. The CCCCO approved the new construction of the new Early Childhood & Education Building with 12,712 ASF contingent upon the removal of the existing 4,099 ASF portables.
Construction began in November 2021. As of July 2023 construction is complete with a ribbon cutting on Friday, August 4, 2023.
