Sep 9, 2024

Dear SCCCD Colleagues,

It is with great sadness that we share the following message from Fresno City College. Please reach out to your colleagues and check on them. The college and district are working to bring additional resources to students and staff during this difficult time.

Once services and plans for a campus memorial have been finalized, they will be shared.

Sincerely,

Dr. Carole Goldsmith
Chancellor

Fresno City College colleagues,

It is with great sadness that I share news of the passing of Kathy Bonilla, Fresno City College’s Public Information Officer for the past 32 years. Kathy’s impact on the campus and community is evidenced by the outpouring of love and concern people have shown in reaching out to the college, District, her family, and her immediate colleagues in the Public Information Office.

Kathy was a stellar Classified Professional who represented the college with dedication. She will be missed by administrators, faculty, and classified professionals across the campus. Kathy proudly served on numerous college committees, including Speakers Forum, Commencement Committee, and the Journalism Advisory Committee.

Representing Fresno City College on a state level included membership in the California Community College Public Relations Organization (CCPRO), where she was named the All-Pro in 2004. In addition, Kathy received 1st Place CCPRO awards in 1993, 1995, 2001 and 2005 for her work of the college newsletter, City at a Glance.

Kathy was an exemplary team member who not only worked with the media, she also took the lead on internal and external communications that included press releases, press conferences, sports information and media requests. Highly ethical, she was a valued higher education expert in traditional and modern marketing media and took pride in representing the college with clarity and distinction.

We will all be feeling the loss of Kathy’s presence today. Please allow yourself time to mourn. Comfort each other and show kindness and love. We are working on providing counseling and support for anyone who needs help dealing with Kathy’s passing.

Kathy had a keen sense of humor, was quick witted, and showed kindness to everyone. She was the epitome of everything great about Fresno City College and will be sorely missed. She leaves behind her beloved husband, Jesse and cherished daughter Angelina. Services and a campus memorial are pending and will be shared when made available. May she rest peacefully.

Thank you,

Dr. Kim Armstrong
Interim President
