Step 5: Assessment/Counseling
Assessment: Each student must go through an assessment process to determine his or her appropriate course placement in English and math. The assessment process is composed of reviewing multiple measures including placement test recommendations, high school transcripts, AP test scores, etc.
Counseling: The counseling/advising session is essential to registering for classes as this steps assists students identify the coursework required to reach their educational goal. On the day of the counseling & advising event at your high school, students will meet with counselors to discuss academic goals and complete an Abbreviated Student Educational Plan (SEP-A). The SEP-A will provide students a plan that identifies courses to register for during their first two semesters (at minimum) with SCCCD.
In order to participate in the scheduled counseling/advising session at your high school, you must have completed the Admission Application and Orientation.
